Would you believe that one of my healthy snack recipes generated more than a quarter of a million dollars in sales? No, it didn’t all go to me—I wish. But I did earn a nice chunk of pocket money from this little venture. And the best part? You can do it too.
Let me tell you how it all started, winding the clock back 15 years…
As the nineties were coming to a close, I found myself intrigued by the raw food movement. I had known about it for some time but, being a lover of sweets, I wasn’t thrilled about giving up my favorite treats. Determined to find a solution, I set out to create something that was both healthy and delicious.
After much experimentation, I came up with the perfect recipe: a lemon bar made from just 5 raw ingredients.
Owning a gym with a healthy food café provided the perfect platform to sell my new creation. To my delight, the lemon bars were an instant hit. They flew off the shelves, and people even started ordering them in bulk to store in their freezers.
My café staff began making the bars in batches every day, but even then, they could barely keep up with the demand. We sold 40-gram bars for $2.00 each, typically in packs of two. On a good day, our little enterprise would bring in between $50 and $100. Over the course of 15 years, that added up to more than $250,000 in sales.
It’s amazing how something so simple could turn into such a profitable venture. And if I can do it, so can you.
You could make these same lemon bars, design a nice label, and sell them online or at local farmers’ markets. It’s a great and easy way to earn money. Or, you can just enjoy them yourself or with your family. Kids love making these simple treats, and they are a much healthier alternative to store-bought snacks loaded with sugar and unhealthy chemicals.
Below is the recipe for my stellar Lemon Bars:
- ¾ cup cashews
- ¾ cup almonds
- ¾ cup dates
- ½ lemon
- ½ cup desiccated coconut
- Place the first four ingredients into a food processor and process until roughly ground.
- Add coconut and continue to process until well combined. Shape into small oblong bars and refrigerate.
- Switch it up and make orange logs, just swap the lemon for half an orange.
This lemon bar recipe is just one of 100 that I’ve developed over the years and included in my best-selling ebook, “100 Healthy Raw Snacks and Treats.”
