alkalinefoodsProper alkaline balance (proper pH) in the body is mandatory for overall health and vitality as well as long term weight loss.

The pH scale ranges from 1-14 with 1 the most acidic end, 7 neutral and 14 the most alkaline. Ideally, the body’s pH level should read at a healthy 7.35 – 7.45.

Unfortunately that’s not the case for many people due to the increased consumption of processed foods and chemical rich environments.

Because of this, many people worldwide suffer with inflammation directly related to maintaining a non-alkaline diet. Inflammation is no ones’ friend and eventually results in destructive disease such as cancer, arthritis or fibromyalgia and the list goes on. It’s not surprising then that chronic degenerative disease is currently being diagnosed in so many people.

However, when an alkaline environment is fostered and nurtured in the body through diet (choosing alkaline/plant based foods such as fruits and veggies) and healthy positive habits, inflammation is reduced and therefore disease is reduced or eliminated. As an added bonus, the bones become stronger thus preventing osteoporosis and muscle mass increases.

Monitoring the foods we eat is the fastest and surest way to get the body into a healthy alkaline state (the body’s blood pH is slightly alkaline at 7.35).

Diets rich in sugar and carbohydrates increase acid levels in the body and throw off pH balance and should be eliminated.

Carbonated and energy drinks, pastries, pasta, roasted nuts, coffee, distilled water, beef, cream cheese, and chocolate, animal based foods and dairy products are all acidic foods also. Truth is, consuming too many acid-forming foods will without a doubt show its ugly head in your health as inflammation has its way.

Here’s a short list of foods of easily asses-able foods that help to keep your body’s environment alkaline that can and should be consumed on a regular basis. These alkaline foods have the ability to neutralize toxic acid in your body.

SIMPLE STEPS

You can also take simple steps to promote a balanced pH in your body like drinking fresh green juice every single day and monitoring the quality of your water (tap water normally has fluoride…very toxic) and drinking the best you can get your hands on.

Stay away from toxic chemicals that may be found in your mouthwash, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap, make-up and any other potion or lotion that may come into contact with your skin as much as possible. Try and use natural cleaning agents as commercial ones are full of chemicals.

Try drinking ½ squeezed lemon in a warm glass of water first thing in the morning (citrus is very alkaline in the body) to give your body an alkaline boost.
